The improving Demons have already delivered several bargains for 2014
The biggest lock for the Demons is... Dom Tyson [MID $218,400].
Dom Tyson enters his third year of AFL with only 13 games on his resume and finds himself at Melbourne seeking more opportunities.
The former No.3 draftee has come out firing this pre-season with his new club, smashing out scores of 56 points from just 41 per cent game time and a huge 114 points in his most recent NAB Challenge game against Geelong.
Fantasy gifts like Dom Tyson don’t come around very often so make sure you don’t miss out.
Some bargains on the radar include... Viv Michie [MID $193,900].
Just like Dom Tyson, Viv Michie is another recycled player who joins Paul Roos after leaving Fremantle last year.
At the age of 20, Michie has only managed one senior game since being drafted in 2010. He has played the majority of his football in the WAFL where he won Peel Thunder’s best and fairest last year after averaging 26 possessions a game.
He’s a ball-winning machine who has slotted straight into Melbourne with impressive NAB Challenge performances of 87 points in just over half a game and a solid 73 points against Geelong.
Jay Kennedy-Harris [FWD $157,200] is another cheap option who has his hand up for Fantasy selection after kicking three goals for his 69 points in his only NAB Challenge game against Richmond.
I’m not overly convinced that Kennedy-Harris will see much game time this year, but finding cheap Fantasy forwards have been tough this year. He’s one to keep an eye on, but not one I’d be locking away with any confidence.
A player of difference is: Jack Watts [DEF/FWD $365,200]
Did I really just say that?
Jack Watts has been a promising Fantasy player for the past three years, without actually ‘breaking out’ to average anything more than 75 since being drafted in 2009.
The former No. 1 draftee averaged 67 last year and is always rumoured for role changes and an improved year of scoring. But … it never happens.
He did have 22 disposals for his 80 points against Geelong in his only NAB Challenge game and once again sent the rumour mill into overdrive. Apparently, under Paul Roos things will be different. If this is true and you believe the hype, then now is the time to jump on board.
The pre-season has taught us … that Melbourne have delivered some Fantasy bargains in 2014.
Tyson and Michie will be extremely popular selections in our Fantasy teams this year but let’s have a quick look at Jack Trengove [MID $422,500] who has also had a great pre-season. He scored 130 points in his first NAB Challenge game and did so in just 64 per cent game time.
Trengove has averaged 76 and 78 over the past two seasons and did average 90 in his second year after being drafted.
He has had a great pre-season and can push an average of 90-plus again in 2014.

@AuzzBazz asks “@CalvinDT: Where does Sam Blease sit with the influx of new mids?”
With the arrival of Bernie Vince, Daniel Cross, Viv Michie and Dom Tyson, the Melbourne midfield is starting to fill up quickly and as for Sam Blease [FWD/MID $172,400], he may be pushed to the outer.
Blease scored 25 and 53 points in his NAB Challenge games and had a disappointing 2013 season averaging 32 from his 10 games. He was substituted in half of those games but has failed to impress the Fantasy world since being drafted in 2008.
My advice is simple, be extremely cautious!
Coach Calvin currently has his eye on...
Dom Tyson and Viv Michie. I don’t just have my eye on these new recruits, I have them locked into my team with confidence.
Although I’m not expecting massive scores from them, I am anticipating that they will make me a fair amount of money with an average of 65-75 points a game.
