BRISBANE Lions midfielder Claye Beams has signed a one-year contract extension with the club.

Beams underwent foot surgery last month after sustaining the injury during a practice match against the Sydney Swans and is expected to return in the next four weeks.

This follows a 2013 season wrecked by rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament.

Lions general manager of football operations Dean Warren described the contract extension as a strong show of faith in Beams.

"We are continuously impressed by his absolute professionalism, particularly during his rehabilitation process, and we have great faith that he will become a solid contributor for our club," Warren said.

"A one year contract extension is a great result for both Claye and the Brisbane Lions and we look forward to seeing him back out on the park, playing the footy we know he is capable of."

Beams was drafted was drafted to the Lions with their Queensland priority selection (pick no.76 overall) in the 2009 AFL Rookie Draft.
