DEAN Cox will break the West Coast games record this week against Geelong and he says reaching 300 games is not out of the question.

Cox will play his 277th match at Simonds Stadium on Saturday night to go past Glen Jakovich's club record of 276.

Last weekend Cox broke the AFL's record for most games played by a rookie-listed player, passing ex-Saint Stephen Milne.

The six-time All Australian ruckman maintains he hasn't made a decision on playing in 2015, which could see him become the first Eagle to reach 300 matches.

"It's a lot of games," Cox said.

"I suppose getting to Jako's record wasn't a massive goal but I'm proud of what I've done in my footy career, to be able to represent this great club so many times.

"So 300, if it happens it happens, who knows? But it's not a focus point of mine."

Cox believes a decision on next year will come later in the season, and will be made in consultation with the coaching staff.

"My thought process behind all of it is let's see how I can play, if I can still play good football this year, and my body allows me to, then next year will be an option," Cox said.

"In my head I will know whether I think I can go on. Going on means that I am looking at playing 20-plus games next year as well. So that's the decision and it will be a decision that will be made with the match committee as well."

Cox's durability has been stunning. He was one of just two Eagles to play all 22 games last season and shouldered much of the rucking workload given the groin issues suffered by Nic Naitanui.

The 32-year-old has played 96 matches consecutively since the start of the 2010 season. He believes he has been very fortunate with his body over the journey.

"I think footy players need a lot of luck along the way," Cox said.

"I think I have had my fair share - and probably the injuries I have had have been the injuries I have been able to manage, or can still play with."
