AS ROUND 10 finishes, we say goodbye to the bye rounds… the bane of every Fantasy coach’s existence.

This round was the best of the three as most squads fielded at least 18 players, with the majority being premiums. AFL coaches were nice to us this week as substitutes were mostly irrelevant to our teams and for the first time in as long as I can remember, there wasn’t a late change for the entire round.

Let’s take a look at the winners and losers from round 10 before normal Fantasy transmission resumes with nine games next week.

Geelong v North Melbourne, Simonds Stadium

In the first Friday night premiership match played in Geelong, DEF/MID Jimmy Bartel (155) came to the party in his long sleeves to top the Fantasy scores. He spent more time in the midfield than usual, collecting 31 disposals, laying seven tackles and kicking two goals.

Also enjoying a midfield role due to Steve Johnson’s suspension, James Kelly (131) posted his highest score for the season. After gaining dual-position eligibility in round eight, the DEF/MID finished with 33 disposals and 10 marks. Just 2594 coaches enjoyed Kelly's score this round but expect his ownership to increase in the coming weeks as we upgrade our defenders.

While Bartel and Kelly dominated through the midfield for the Cats, Levi Greenwood (146) was the best for the Kangaroos. He spent time following Joel Selwood (96) while racking up 33 touches himself. Selwood mostly played forward, with stints in the midfield, but finished the game strongly to post a respectable score after being a popular inclusion this week.

Another popular trade-in last week, Brent Harvey (102) found plenty of the ball as did hard-working midfielder Jack Ziebell (110).

Playing his second match, Jed Bews (38) is now owned by 22,499 coaches but he couldn't reach the heights of his 84-point game on debut.

Greater Western Sydney v Richmond, Spotless Stadium

It was a big week for Jack Riewoldt (156) but what an awesome response from the forward. He kicked four goals in the opening term and finished with 11 for the match. Each of his 17 disposals were by foot and he managed to take 12 marks - fantastic Fantasy footballing.

Brandon Ellis (127), Dustin Martin (111) and Brett Deledio (102) were the major ball winners for the Tigers racking up 101 disposals between them.

GWS midfielders Dylan Shiel (126) and Adam Treloar (118) finished with 34 disposals each.

Coaches that like to follow Fantasy scores as they watch the game live would have been sweating over Trent Cotchin (102) sitting in the negatives at quarter time. An 80 point last half helped him crack the ton by the end of the match.

Ruckman Shane Mumford (50) averaged 120 points in his first three games before knee surgery kept him out until this week. With just eight disposals and 20 hit-outs, the 15,000 coaches who held him or brought him in this week would have expected more after his great start to the season.

Starting Giants substitute Josh Kelly (0) played limited game time and didn't trouble the statisticians. For the Tigers, Daniel Jackson (8) was substituted out of the match early in the first quarter with a leg injury.

Collingwood v West Coast, MCG

The Eagles were overrun in the last quarter as the Pies snatched the four points. Usual suspects Scott Pendlebury (119), Steele Sidebottom (115) and Dayne Beams (113) did most of their work in the midfield but all made an impact on the scoreboard, each kicking at least one goal for Collingwood.

Eagle Matt Priddis (137) kicked two goals to go with his 35 disposals and eight tackles while Dean Cox (113) rested forward when not rucking to also kick two.

Tagging Pendlebury, Scott Selwood (106) was among the best for West Coast, collecting 23 possessions, seven marks and five tackles.

DEF/MID Xavier Ellis (89) has re-booted as a cash cow thanks to his 24-disposal game. He went past his breakeven of 75 and he will now have a low breakeven heading into round 11.

A late goal to Travis Cloke (42) gave his score a much-needed boost, but 42 points is not what you'd expect from a bloke who averaged 92.5 points last year. Since picking him up after his bye, I've taken scores of 55 and 42 and he's leaking cash. Hopefully he finds some form soon!

Port Adelaide v Hawthorn, Adelaide Oval

The Power remain at the top of the ladder after claiming a 14-point win against last year's premiers, Hawthorn. Midfielders Travis Boak (128) and Brad Ebert (115) were the top Fantasy scorers for the home team, while Jordan Lewis (136) racked up 38 disposals to make him the highest scorer for the Hawks.

It's been a rollercoaster season for defender Matt Suckling (112). This was a week when he was at the top of his game, finishing with 28 touches and eight marks.

Prior to his shoulder injury, Liam Shiels (104) was having a great Fantasy season, averaging 97 points with his more attacking role. I had some doubts about how he would return, but the midfielder picked up from where he left off with 23 touches and a game-high nine tackles.

In his second game of the season, Kane Mitchell (89) laid eight tackles for a score that will see his value increase again this week. At under $300K, Mitchell has a natural Fantasy game and would be a handy player to bring in with the Power's relatively easy run of games coming up.

Hawks ruckman Ben McEvoy (25) copped a corked leg that saw him subbed out halfway through the match. Angus Monfries (71) finished the game in the red vest for Port Adelaide after an ankle injury ended his night.

Gold Coast v Western Bulldogs, Metricon Stadium

The Suns may continue to rise, now third on the ladder, but it wasn't the most popular Fantasy captain’s best game. Gary Ablett (78) copped the Liam Picken tag, along with a few bumps and bruises, to be held to 24 disposals, one mark and three tackles. This week's Match Review Panel report will be interesting, though he'll be unlucky to be suspended for his elbow on Picken.

Defender Jarrod Harbrow (119) continues to have his best Fantasy season to date. Dion Prestia (116), Matt Shaw (101) and Brandon Matera (101) all managed to crack the ton.

Fallen premium
Ryan Griffen (115) now has back-to-back centuries and has rekindled some of his form that saw him average 105 last season. A last-quarter goal and 17 points in the last 5 minutes of the match did help pad his numbers.

Midfielders Matthew Boyd (112) and Tom Liberatore (111) were among the leading ball-winners with the latter laying an incredible 12 tackles. Newly named FWD/MID Luke Dahlhaus (107) had a big first half, racking up 21 disposals. He finished with 27.

Gold Coast defender Kade Kolodjashnij (74) missed last week with a knee injury but he was great on return, gathering 21 touches to keep his breakeven down for another week.

Carlton v Adelaide, MCG

In a thrilling finish, Carlton won by five points thanks to some excellent performances from their stars.

Defender Kade Simpson (141) is in some red-hot Fantasy form, scoring his second 140-plus score in as many games. He took 11 marks to go with his 36 disposals and a goal. New recruit Dale Thomas (115) played his most important game since joining the Blues and Bryce Gibbs (113) had 31 possessions.

For the Crows, Rory Laird (104) was surprisingly their top scorer and Sam Jacobs (103) once again cemented himself as one of Fantasy's best rucks.

In his second game,
Charlie Cameron (37) produced some interesting statistics. He didn't score any Fantasy points in the second and fourth quarters, only recording stats when the Crows were kicking towards the Punt Road end.

Patrick Dangerfield (74) had 25 disposals but only took two marks and laid one tackle. Both are usually strong components of his game.

How did the Traders go in round 10?

Calvin was the best of the three of us with his whopping 1833 points. He was happy with the best-on-ground performance from Kade Simpson on debut.

Unfortunately I was playing Calvinator this week and fell 99 points short with my Warne Dawgs scoring a solid 1734. I moved up in the rankings to 1599th overall but I'll be looking to swing the axe on Travis Cloke this week. By far my worst trade in this year.

I wish I was playing Roy instead of Calvin. His team destROY ended up with 1733. Again, a decent score for the week led by his recent unique recruit, Brandon Ellis.

The bye rounds are now over and we'll be able to get some of those rookies back on the bench this week. There is a Thursday night game for round 11, so make sure you make the changes you need to before then.
