James Frawley still assessing Dees' flag hopes as contract hangs in the air
OUT-OF-CONTRACT Demon James Frawley is in no rush to make a decision over his playing future but admits the lure of playing in a premiership will be a factor.
Frawley is set to become one of the hottest free agents on the market at the end of the season, with reports that several clubs including Adelaide, Hawthorn and Carlton have made enquiries with the 25-year-old's management.
“I’m in no rush to do anything," Frawley said on Thursday.
"I'm contracted until the end of the year and I'm not going to make any rash decisions.
"I want to make sure the club is heading in the right direction."
The 25-year-old has already denied reports he has put an $800,000 price tag on himself, but financial security is sure to be a consideration, while the lure of playing finals and winning a flag also looms large.
Adelaide and Hawthorn's premiership windows are open and with both clubs looking to shore up their defensive stocks, Frawley may be able to replicate the successful move of former Bulldog, now premiership Hawk Brian Lake.
"It (the lure of playing in a flag) plays a part, you always want to win and play finals," Frawley said.
"I've been here [at Melbourne] eight years and haven't played any finals and haven't got close really. It'd be great to play finals.
“At this club we've seen massive improvement over the last few years and if we keep going in the right trend, we'll hopefully be playing finals really soon."
Frawley is also keen to learn who will succeed coach Paul Roos, who will finish up in the role at the end of 2016.
The prospect of being a one-club player hasn't been overlooked by Frawley, who was drafted with the Demons’ first-round pick in 2006.
"I think being a country boy, loyalty is a massive thing," he said.
"I love the Melbourne Football Club, they've done so much for me and have given me the opportunity to play football. I love the club and I owe a lot to them."
Meanwhile teammate Lynden Dunn has turned his back on free agency and signed a new three-year-deal with the club, which will tie him to the Demons until the end of 2017.
