Hill has been in spectacular form, winning the Ross Glendinning Medal in last week's Western Derby with 32 disposals and three goals.
But he was withdrawn from the Dockers' selected side on Friday morning after suffering what the club described as 'a minor quad strain'.
Fremantle assistant Michael Prior said Hill had hurt his quad at training in Perth on Thursday.
The midfielder has been replaced in the selected side by Clancee Pearce who has been the sub in the last two matches.
Exciting key-position prospect Michael Apeness has been added as an emergency.
St Kilda has added Sam Dunnell to its 25-man squad for Hayes, who is struggling with groin soreness. The squad will be trimmed to 22 on Friday afternoon.
Richmond's Matt Thomas has withdrawn from his side's game against the Brisbane Lions after suffering an Achilles injury.
His place has been taken by Matt Arnot, with Brad Helbig coming in as an emergency.
And Port Adelaide has swapped emergencies with Jake Neade replacing Sam Gray.
