CARLTON'S prized recruit Dale Thomas has escaped another serious injury to his reconstructed right ankle and is a chance to line-up against Port Adelaide on Friday night.

It was feared Thomas had seriously damaged his troublesome ankle in the Blues' six-point loss to Geelong last Friday night.

But the star midfielder has only sustained a medial side sprain as well as bone bruising to his left knee.

There was also positive news for young gun Troy Menzel, but Brock McLean has been ruled out of the Power clash and David Ellard's season is over.

Menzel suffered an AC joint sprain to his left shoulder – a repeat of a round 18 injury – against the Cats.

Scans cleared the NAB AFL Rising Star nominee of structural damage and he's a chance to play on Friday night.

McLean was a late withdrawal on Friday night and scans have revealed a minor calf strain.

Ellard has severely strained his right ankle and will be in a moon boot for the next two-to-three weeks before starting rehabilitation.
