GUY MCKENNA'S tenure as Gold Coast coach is on shaky ground after a Suns board meeting called for a full review of the football department.

Chairman John Witheriff confirmed the review would be conducted immediately with results to be known within the next fortnight.

The review will cover everything from coaching to high performance to welfare and administration to list management, the academy and the winless NEAFL team.

It will be overseen by general manager of football operations Marcus Ashcroft, who will report back to the board with his findings.

McKenna has come under increasing scrutiny following a disappointing end to the season where the Suns dropped 10 of their final 13 games to finish in 12th position.

After meeting with the board on Thursday night, he was confident he would still be coach next season.

"We can't go into too much detail, mate," McKenna told The Footy Show before Witheriff confirmed a full review of the football department.

"(I) presented what I had to present like we'd normally do at this end of the season and I was comfortable with the outcome.

"I'm comfortable knowing that I'll be there next year because there is a contract.

"But because of the current landscape of course, that's tough.

"(I) presented to the board and that's all you can do. Everything's in the lap of the board of course."

McKenna is contracted for 2015 after signing an extension earlier this year.

Witheriff said the club was keen to take the next step towards success.

"The football review announced by the board will assist in making decisions about season 2015," he said.

"As a young club we should be very proud, but our members and the Gold Coast community deserve to see us aiming higher every year.

"This review will give us the information we need to make the right decisions."

Gold Coast's decision comes the day after Adelaide unexpectedly sacked coach Brenton Sanderson.

McKenna is the inaugural Suns coach and has coached all four seasons to date.
