Matt Maguire continues career revival, signing another one-year deal
MATT Maguire will play on in 2015 after the Brisbane Lions locked up the veteran defender with another one-year contract extension.
Looking out of coach Justin Leppitsch's plans early in the season, Maguire has now completed a remarkable turnaround to revive his career.
The 30-year-old played 12 of the final 13 matches and was a rock alongside youngster Justin Clarke in the key defensive posts.
Maguire was one of six experienced players that came to the Lions at the end of the 2009 season and has been the most successful.
Brendan Fevola flopped, Amon Buchanan played minimally, Xavier Clarke was wiped out with injuries and after a solid contribution, Andrew Raines was delisted last month.
Only Brent Staker, who has also been cruelled by injuries, remains on the list with Maguire.
The man known as 'Goose' just keeps on keeping on.
Maguire played 99 games for the Saints and has added 69 in his five seasons in Brisbane and has played the latter stages of his career on one-year deals.
The Lions now have only young midfielder Jack Crisp out of contract and are in negotiations to extend his tenure.
