Matt Priddis goes solo
The surprise 2014 Brownlow medallist collected 26 votes to be the third winner from West Coast. He scooped most of the votes for the Eagles, with the club's next best player – Andrew Gaff – polling just six.
 
Gary Ablett's night
Ablett polled 22 votes up to his season-ending shoulder injury in round 16, which was the eighth consecutive season the champion midfielder has polled 20 or more votes.
 
The ineligible one
There was an awkward feeling in the room when Nat Fyfe hit the front late with 25 votes. The Fremantle star, ineligible for the Brownlow after two suspensions, led until the final round before Priddis overtook him.
 
Buddy the exception
Of the top 15 votegetters, Lance Franklin was the only non-midfielder, highlighting again it is not an award which rewards the forwards or defenders. Franklin's 22 votes was the most of his career.
 
The shock
Joel Selwood didn't get too many freebies throughout the night, earning each of his 21 votes. The pre-count favourite was unlucky when he only won one vote in round 18 against GWS – Selwood had 39 disposals and kicked a goal.
 
The Rising Star
Lewis Taylor was named the NAB AFL Rising Star earlier this month, but didn't catch the eye of the umpires. The Brisbane Lions speedster didn't poll a vote in the Brownlow Medal. Marcus Bontempelli, who came second in the Rising Star, polled four votes.
 
Awakening the Giants
Callan Ward became the first Greater Western Sydney player to poll 10 votes in a season. The fearless midfielder and Giants co-captain finished with 15 votes to cap another strong year. We predict many more votes to come for the club.
 
Umpire's pet
Everyone loves Patrick Dangerfield, including the umpires it would seem. The Crows star polled 21 votes and was still in the hunt going into the last round. Despite some fitness concerns through the year he was Adelaide's highest vote getter and appears likely to command many more votes in the future.
 
Pearce's run
The dash of Brisbane Lions defender Pearce Hanley clearly caught the eye. With nine votes, he was the highest placed defender in the Brownlow Medal.
 
One to watch
Keep an eye on young Western Bulldogs midfielder Jack Macrae at future Brownlow Medal nights. Macrae is a big ball-winner and finds plenty of possessions. He gathered 10 votes to be his club's leading poller.
