Collingwood is interested in Clark and reports have emerged that disgruntled Pie Heritier Lumumba - who has already met with Melbourne coach Paul Roos - could be used as a straight swap for the troubled Demon.
Essendon is also said to be interested in Clark and will no doubt need another tall with ruckman Paddy Ryder expected to depart soon.
One report suggested the Bombers had "offered a three-year deal worth $1.5 million" for Clark.
Clark's manager Colin Young told The Age: "We will sit down and go: 'Where is the best club? Do you identify with the coach?'
"It's not being disrespectful to any club. There might be clubs by Friday that go: 'We have had a look, but we are not going anywhere with it'.
"It's been a fact-finding mission from both sides. At the moment, money is not really the issue. It's getting the right club, the right fit and the right deal for Melbourne."
The chase for Lumumba is also heating up, with North Melbourne reportedly joining Melbourne in pursuit of the Collingwood premiership defender.
The Age says the Kangaroos will meet with Lumumba later this week when he returns from holidays.
North Melbourne reportedly appeals to Lumumba because of his association with football boss Geoff Walsh and coach Brad Scott, who was formerly a Magpies assistant.
The fact the Kangaroos is a premiership contender is also believed to be a consideration.
The beaten preliminary finalist is also in the hunt for a number of other players to top up its list.
They are reportedly chasing Carlton free agent Jarrad Waite, out-of-contract Western Bulldog Shaun Higgins and his out-of-favour teammate Liam Jones, who kicked five goals for Footscray in last Sunday's VFL grand final win.
The potential for a Lumumba-Clark trade has intensified given the belief that the Magpies are Clark's preferred option.
The club is still awaiting further health and wellbeing test results after the former Brisbane Lion retired earlier this year due to mental health issues.
