THE BRISBANE Lions have until less than a week to table a suitable deal for Dayne Beams or he is off the table, says Collingwood CEO Gary Pert.
Beams has requested a trade to his home state of Queensland to be near his sick father and his preference reportedly lies with the Lions, where his younger brother Claye plays.
The Magpies are prepared to play hard-ball on their contracted midfielder and want more than the first round NAB AFL Draft selection the Lions have offered.
The Lions now have a deadline to meet if they are to snare the 2012 best and fairest winner.
"We are happy to facilitate the trade as long as it is a fair and reasonable outcome for the Collingwood Football Club, which is currently causing a problem, because Dayne is a highly-respected player at Collingwood, and we clearly value him as a player at a higher level than what Brisbane does," Pert told the Herald Sun.
"In my conversation with (Lions CEO) Greg Swann, I let him know that we have supplied several different alternatives that would work from our perspective in a trade.
"What I have said to Greg, and which he has agreed to and accepted, is that we will continue our discussions and they are open until 5pm next Friday.
"If the trade hasn’t been completed or resolved by that time, then Collingwood will close down discussions and we will be in a position to move forward with other trades and other opportunities.
"We will also take the opportunity to work with Dayne about how we can meet his family needs to remain at the Collingwood Football Club."
Beams did not attend Collingwood's best and fairest on Friday night.
Meanwhile, the manager of North Melbourne's Levi Greenwood has remained non-committal on the midfielder's future, other than to state they continue to talk to the Kangaroos.
The Kangaroos said on Friday they wanted to meet with Liam Pickering over the "next 48-72 hours" to negotiate about Greenwood.
Pickering told SEN on Saturday morning that talks would continue, but wouldn't speculate on whether Greenwood would remain at Aegis Park.
"We're negotiating at the moment," Pickering said.
"I'm not commenting on [terms or money]. It's irrelevant.
"We're working through it at the moment with Levi so we'll see how it all unfolds."
Greenwood has attracted interest from Collingwood, the Western Bulldogs and Richmond, according to The Age.
