NUMBER one draft pick Paddy McCartin was admitted to hospital on Saturday to receive treatment for a skin infection on his right thigh.

The 18-year-old, who was the No.1 pick in the 2014 NAB AFL Draft, underwent a minor procedure while in hospital and the Saints expect him to resume training later this week.

St Kilda used its prized No.1 draft pick on McCartin in November and is being groomed as a long-term successor to key forward Nick Riewoldt.

McCartin had an outstanding junior career with the Geelong Falcons and Vic Country but the Saints expect him to take time to develop in the key role.
