ADELAIDE recruit Kyle Cheney will spend the rest of the week resting after suffering an episode of an irregular heartbeat.

The former Hawthorn defender visited a heart specialist and will be closely monitored but is expected to make a full recovery and could return to training as early as next week.

The 25-year-old played nine games for the Hawks last year, which took his career tally up to 41 overall.

Starved of senior football at Hawthorn and in search of increased opportunity, Cheney crossed to West Lakes last October, after being originally drafted by Melbourne in 2007.

It's the second injury scare for the Crows this week with Brent Reilly being rushed to hospital on Monday with a fractured skull.

Reilly underwent emergency surgery for the injury and remains in intensive care at the Royal Adelaide Hospital where he is recovering.
