SYDNEY Swans wingman Jake Lloyd will have scans to determine the extent of an elbow injury suffered in Friday evening's intra-club match in Marrickville.
Lloyd, who fought to get off the rookie list and play 21 games last season, including the Grand Final, collided with a teammate when going for a contested ball in the third quarter and took no further part in the game.
"He got a little knock on the elbow, hopefully it's just a little hyperextension and it's not too bad," coach John Longmire said after the match.
"He was a bit sore and he'll have to get it scanned and see how it is. There's probably some ligament damage."
Champion Swan Adam Goodes was the star early in Friday's match, moving well across half-forward in the first two 20-minute quarters.
After a carefully managed pre-season, the dual Brownlow medallist didn't return for the second half, but Longmire said his workload could be increased ahead of round one as a result of his encouraging form.
"He was right on top of the ground and he was really lively early in the game," the coach said.
"He looked as though he had a lot of confidence in his body. He was leading, his run looked really good and he looked as though he could have done an extra 20 or 30 minutes easily."
Longmire said Goodes was unlikely to play the Swans' NAB Challenge opener against the Brisbane Lions in Coffs Harbour next Friday night, but he was on track to play the following two pre-season games.
The coach was encouraged by the run and spread of academy recruit Jack Hiscox and the defensive efforts of Dane Rampe, Nick Smith and Heath Grundy.
Veteran Rhyce Shaw, co-captain Kieren Jack and Lewis Jetta, who is being used in a new half-back role, were others to impress.
Star forward Lance Franklin and midfielder Jarrad McVeigh, who strained a calf this week, missed the match but are on target to play pre-season matches.
Defender Ted Richards is also close to resuming following a hamstring setback.
