ST KILDA remains confident the rash of hamstring injuries that has struck the club recently is more down to bad luck than poor management.
Seb Ross became the fifth Saint to be sidelined with a hamstring complaint on Saturday when he suffered a high-grade tear in the NAB Challenge clash with Essendon in Morwell.
The young midfielder joins fellow hamstring victims Jack Billings, Farren Ray, Shane Savage and Dylan Roberton on the club's lengthy injury list.
But coach Alan Richardson asserted the Saints were just "incredibly unlucky" when quizzed on the topic on ABC radio on Sunday.
St Kilda players were put through a gruelling pre-season program after finishing on the bottom of the ladder last season, but football manager Jamie Cox denied the intense training regime was behind the slew of hamstring injuries.
Billings in race to be ready for round one
"We have had a few pop up, but they've all been very different," Cox told radio station SEN on Monday.
"Absolutely we'll be looking at possible causes of those .. but we're certainly very pleased with where our group's at physically.
"Nothing jumps out but the causes for these things can be many and varied.
"Regardless of injuries, we always analyse our program and I have total faith in our strength, conditioning and medical staff."
The hamstring issue has exacerbated St Kilda's injury concerns with just one practice game to play before the season kicks off.
Ross and Ray are set to miss up to three months, while Arryn Siposs (shoulder), Sam Gilbert (foot), Brodie Murdoch (back) and Daniel Markworth (shoulder) are also set for lengthy spells on the sidelines.
