WEST Coast rookie Murray Newman is set to miss the next two months after dislocating a tendon in his right thumb in the WAFL last weekend.
Newman suffered the injury in the opening term of East Perth's win over Subiaco on Good Friday.
The 21-year-old continued playing and finished with four goals for the afternoon, but scans revealed a dislocated tendon that could take eight weeks to heal.
Newman will require surgery and will be in a moulded cast for six weeks before he can resume training.
The injury is yet another blow to the Eagles following on from the loss of key defenders Eric Mackenzie and Mitch Brown to knee reconstructions.
In better news for West Coast, Xavier Ellis appears ready to resume after overcoming a hamstring strain.
Ruckman Callum Sinclair is due to return to the WAFL this week after missing the last month with a broken thumb.
Midfielder Mark Hutchings is also close to returning from groin issues that have plagued him all summer.
Jack Darling is still being eased back into full training from his foot stress fracture and remains on track for a scheduled return in five weeks.
