Magpie Ben Reid's return on hold again after suffering quad injury
LUCKLESS Collingwood tall Ben Reid has suffered a "minor" quad injury in the VFL, Magpies coach Nathan Buckley says.
The 25-year-old took the field in Collingwood's VFL match against North Ballarat at Eureka Stadium last Sunday.
Reid's experience was on display in the first half – where he took several overhead marks – but the injury-prone Magpie was rested in the final quarter.
Buckley said Reid would now have scans to determine the severity of the injury.
"He didn't finish the game. He hasn't had a scan today, he'll have a scan at some stage over the next couple of days," Buckley told Fox Footy on Monday night.
"It is a quad nick, we think it's just superficial.
"We'll have a look and see what it is, but the doctors have pretty much said that this is going to be really minor."
Reid managed just four games for the Magpies last season after being troubled by quad, calf and hamstring injuries.
Despite Reid's latest setback, Buckley said the versatile tall could resume training next week.
"I don't reckon he'll play this week but he could be back at training in a week and then it'll be building back up," he said.
"We've been really enthused by his past three months … the work that he's been able to put in, we feel like he's made great progress.
"We've been at pains that we're going to take our time with him.
"We have to get him up and running and when he's up, it will be for the long term.
"So we're still in the same process.
"We believe we're going to get an All Australian player back."
