GOLD Coast's horror run with injuries just got worse, with midfielder Dion Prestia unlikely to return this season.
Scans on Monday confirmed Prestia has a torn lateral meniscus in his left knee suffered during Saturday night's loss against Collingwood.
Injuries taking their toll, admits Eade
He will have surgery in the coming days and will be sidelined for 12 to 16 weeks.
Gold Coast general manager of football operations Marcus Ashcroft confirmed the news on Monday.
"It is obviously an extremely disappointing setback for Dion. He has had a good start to the season and his leadership on and off the ground has grown enormously," Ashcroft said.
Prestia joins midfield teammates Gary Ablett, David Swallow and Jaeger O’Meara on the Suns' extended injury list.
They filled four of Gold Coast's top five places in the 2014 best and fairest.
Prestia had been among the Suns' best in their difficult start to the season, averaging 27 disposals a game along with eight clearances, which ranks him second in the AFL.
The Suns are no closer to getting respite from their horrendous injury toll, although key defender Steven May will return from a three-week suspension against Hawthorn this weekend.
Nick Malceski (knee) is racing the clock to return but after missing a month of action, may need to come back through the NEAFL, while Rory Thompson (hip) is unlikely this weekend.
Ablett (shoulder) and Swallow (knee) have no timeframe on their returns and could be a month or more away.
