THE AFL won't take any further action against Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson after South Australian police cleared the triple premiership coach of any wrongdoing in his altercation with a fan in Adelaide.

Clarkson clashed with a drunken fan while walking back to his Adelaide hotel following Hawthorn's loss to Port Adelaide on Anzac Day.

Vision of the incident was captured on mobile phone and showed Clarkson pushing the man by the throat.

On Wednesday SA police announced Clarkson was in the clear following a investigation which included police travelling to Melbourne to interview the coach.

In a statement to AFL.com.au, AFL general counsel Andrew Dillon said the League was "not required to act" against Clarkson.

The incident led to the AFL insisting all players and team personal travel from AFL venues to team hotels by bus only.

"All clubs were notified earlier this season they should only travel to and from games at the venue by the team bus, while security measures around the hotel had also been upgraded," Dillon said.

"All club officials and players had also been reminded to avoid potential situations wherever possible, and the AFL did not believe any further action was required."

The League is still waiting on Tasmanian police to conclude their investigation into an alleged assault by North Melbourne coach Brad Scott.

A security guard alleged Scott assaulted him during the Kangaroos' round six clash against Richmond at Blundstone Arena.
