OVERNIGHT the second wave of dual position player (DPP) additions hit the NAB AFL Fantasy system and have taken effect across all forms of the game.
Prior to round six, 18 players gained an extra position to their Fantasy status due to the roles they had been playing in the new season.
With some more rounds of data, the team at Fantasy HQ have worked closely with Champion Data to add greater flexibility to our squads.
Using a range of statistics including player heat maps, the new DPPs will be able to be selected in their new positions.
Keen Fantasy coaches look straight to the players on the list who previous listed purely as midfielders and now gain a new position, such as DEF or FWD.
Jarrad McVeigh gaining defender status sparks the most interest. With an average of 101.5 in his last 10 games, the Swan is now fourth on the list of defenders by average and second in total points scored. After the bye, McVeigh should be one of the first players you upgrade to in the backline.
Demon Daniel Cross ranks fourth in the league for defensive half disposals since round six. He is now named as a DEF/MID.
Of the midfielders adding forward status, there are two names who deserve consideration for our classic teams: Toby Greene and Ben McGlynn.
Back in the pre-season, Roy’s love for the ball-magnet from Greater Western Sydney was strong enough for him to name Greene in the best eight midfielders for 2015. While the role-change hasn’t allowed Greene to score at will like in the past (he posted 116, 127, 126, 165 and 125 in the last five rounds of 2014), there is hope that he will become a Fantasy piglet again and be one of the top forwards.

McGlynn isn’t a walk-up start in the Swans' midfield these days but he is still scoring well with an average of 88.6 from six games. The new FWD/MID enjoyed his best Fantasy season in 2014 going at 102.6 points per game.
As these new DPPs have been added to all Fantasy formats, including the draft style Elite, it is important to see how you can best take advantage of the changes. If there is a player that is likely to gain some value with their newly acquired flexibility, pick them up as a free agent.
The third and final group of DPP additions will be locked in just before round 18. Track the heat maps of players you’re interested in via the AFL Live Pass. Subscribers have access to interactive features and exclusive stats in the app’s ‘Coach’ section.
