COLLINGWOOD president Eddie McGuire has scoffed at questions about coach Nathan Buckley's future.

Buckley's contract runs until the end of the 2016 season, but on Thursday McGuire wasn't keen to discuss what the 42-year-old needed to deliver to keep his job.

"Well, he can finish off his contract in the first place, we don't talk about coaches at Collingwood like that … no, not answering that question," McGuire said in response to a question from AFL.com.au

"I'm not reluctant to get involved, mate, because I'll make the decision and it's not time to make any decisions regarding the coach," he said.

He was also keeping his cards close to his chest in relation to Adam Treloar from GWS and Adelaide's Patrick Dangerfield, both of whom are out of contract at the end of the season.

"We're not going to be talking about coaches, we're not going to be talking about players, we're worried about the West Coast Eagles this week," McGuire said.

"I'm not going to bore you with one-week-at-a-time, and I'm not going to answer boring questions."

Speaking at the MCG, which is set up for an international soccer tournament, McGuire then joked he was looking to poach Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.

"You can ask me about anyone … Cristiano Ronaldo apparently is going to come to Collingwood as well."

"So we look forward to recruiting him, he's coming, he'll have a look at the MCG over the weekend, come over to the Westpac (to) have a train, he might stay, I reckon."

Earlier this month Magpies chief executive Gary Pert publicly backed Buckley as the man to lead the club forward beyond his currently contracted term.

McGuire was the master of ceremonies at an AFL event to launch this season's Multicultural Round activities, which will be focused on the round 19 Collingwood-Carlton fixture.

Buckley has been Collingwood coach since 2012, with 50 wins and 34 losses to his name.

He replaced Mick Malthouse as part of a transition plan put in place by McGuire.

The seventh-placed Magpies will host West Coast at Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon in search of their ninth win of the season.
