GOLD Coast's midfield stocks have been further depleted with Mitch Hallahan (arm) and Alex Sexton (knee) ruled out for the season.

Hallahan has missed the past two weeks and the club fears another knock would do further damage to his arm.

Sexton was absent from Saturday's draw against West Coast after suffering the knee injury against Adelaide the previous week.

The pair have been big improvers in a difficult season and have added depth to Gold Coast's midfield.

After moving from Hawthorn in the off-season, Hallahan has played 12 games and averaged 19 disposals as an in-and-under midfielder.

Sexton has played 13 games and proven himself to be a reliable run-with player capable of kicking goals.

It adds to a nightmare run of injuries for the Suns.

They are already missing Gary Ablett, Jaeger O'Meara, David Swallow and Dion Prestia, all to knee injuries, for the rest of the season. 

The midfield is already threadbare, with Touk Miller, Aaron Hall and Jesse Lonergan starting in the centre against West Coast last week and doing an outstanding job.

Stand-in skipper Michael Rischitelli will return against the Brisbane Lions on Saturday though, after missing against the Eagles due to personal reasons. 

Defender Rory Thompson is still awaiting results on a knee injury he suffered against West Coast.

Although he is unlikely to play the Lions, the club is hopeful it's not as bad as first thought.
