HAWTHORN won't take further action to discipline captain Luke Hodge after he was fined $450 and docked 10 demerit points for being caught drink driving on Thursday night.
The 31-year-old dual premiership skipper was stopped by police on his way home from a function and blew 0.068 after consuming "a couple of drinks", Hawks general manager of football operations Chris Fagan said.
He notified the club immediately and co-operated with police throughout.
Hodge is serving a two-game suspension for a high bump on Port Adelaide star Chad Wingard, which has ruled him out of playing until the first week of finals.
"Luke understands that as a father of two young boys and a leader of our footy club he is in a position to set an example for the community in regards to road safety and is extremely remorseful,” Fagan said.
"He had a couple of drinks throughout the night and thought he was OK to drive, but makes no excuse for his poor judgment.
"This is a reminder for our entire playing group and the community that when in doubt to take public transport or catch a taxi.
"We are disappointed in Luke's error of judgment, the club has spoken to him and the police about the matter and we believe the penalty he has received is appropriate."
Speaking to Channel 7 on Friday night, Hodge was remorseful for his actions.
"I made a silly call, an error in judgement and I feel like an idiot," Hodge said.
"If I thought I wasn’t fine, I wouldn't have jumped in the car.
"You sit back now and think it would have been easy enough to get a cab."
