HAWK Cyril Rioli wearing traditional indigenous body paint and sharing a touching moment with his father feature in a 2015 AFL Grand Final film shown at Thursday night's AFL season launch function in Melbourne.
Rioli, last year's Norm Smith medallist, is seen dancing on a beach with members of his family including father Cyril, a champion footballer in the Northern Territory and brother of the late Richmond star, Maurice.
The film also includes behind-the-scenes material and exclusive slow-mo vision from last year's Hawthorn-West Coast Grand Final, won by the Hawks.
Filmmaker Peter Dickson said he wanted to tell the story of Rioli's path to individual success through the eyes, voices and traditions of his family.
"Cyril was really keen when I explained the 'stay the path' idea to him and his dad and cousins were fantastic. They really embraced it," Dickson said.
This is Dickson's seventh Grand Final film, continuing a concept started by his late brother Robert, the former Hawthorn and Brisbane Bears player.
Dickson, who last year also produced the multi award-winning The Chosen Few 2, a documentary on the life of AFL club captains that aired on Channel Seven, used seven cameras perched in strategic spots at the MCG.
"Rob really set the bar high. I'm trying to get somewhere near his level with mine."
