PORT Adelaide defender Jack Hombsch will miss at least three weeks after straining his left quad at training last Thursday.
Hombsch was a late out from the side that defeated Richmond by 38 points on Friday.
The session the day before a game is typically light, and Power high performance manager Darren Burgess told the club's website that the incident seemed minor at the time.
"It was a pretty innocuous thing to happen," Burgess said.
"It’s a strain to the quad on his kicking leg – he's a left footer – so we think it'll mean at least three weeks [out] for him."
Hombsch's season has already been interrupted by a hamstring strain.
Fellow defender Tom Jonas is available for selection this week after serving his suspension for striking West Coast's Andrew Gaff.
However, Alipate Carlile's knee injury means he will struggle to return before season's end, and Jackson Trengove has been required in the ruck with the Power's options in that position limited by Paddy Ryder's season-long ban.
