RORY Lobb has resisted the lure to head home to Western Australia by recommitting to Greater Western Sydney until the end of the 2019 season.
The 23-year-old ruckman was contracted for 2017 but it emerged late in the season that he was open to a possible move back to WA.
Both Fremantle and West Coast were keen on Lobb, but he has recommitted to the Giants and signed a two-year contract extension.
"I'm really happy to have re-signed with the Giants," Lobb told the club website.
"As a playing group we took some big steps this year and I think there is still plenty of improvement in us, which is exciting.
"I've grown really close to my teammates and I believe that if we stick together, we can hopefully achieve the ultimate success in the future."
His manager, Nick Gieschen of TLA, told NAB Trade Radio on Tuesday that the West Australian clubs had been in contact about trading for Lobb but no official offers were made.
"What settled him down was playing regular senior footy. In the end, it was a pretty easy decision because of the way that the Giants were playing," Gieschen said.
"There weren't any offers. Both the WA teams contacted me and TLA throughout the year, but that's pretty common for interstate clubs to touch base with managers about players that have been drafted interstate."
The Giants are delighted to secure the exciting ruckman.
Lobb kicked 29 goals in 23 games this season. including three goals in the preliminary final loss to the Western Bulldogs.
He also ranked second in the AFL for contested marks this season with 60.
Lobb's new contract with the Giants leaves both the Eagles and the Dockers searching elsewhere for ruck options.
The Eagles were heavily interested in Lobb given their sparse ruck stocks.
They have sounded out Drew Petrie and Petrie has expressed an interest in heading to Perth, but he will have to wait until the Eagles have worked through all their options.
Fremantle free agent Zac Clarke is also considering all of his options following post-season knee surgery.
