TOM ROCKLIFF has put more pressure on his relationship with the Brisbane Lions after CEO Greg Swann described Twitter remarks made by the club's captain as "really disappointing".

Rockliff, 26, posted comments on Twitter last Sunday that objectified women before apologising in another tweet posted on Thursday.

"I'd like to apologise for my insensitive comments posted on October 2 – they showed a lack of respect for women and I'm truly sorry," he tweeted.

Speaking to Melbourne radio station 3AW on Thursday night, Swann said Rockliff's tweets were poorly timed, considering the speculation around his status at the Lions.

Rockliff is contracted for 2017 but reports have swirled that he wants to leave the club.

"I only found out about that late today. It was a Twitter exchange between him and a few of his mates, I think," Swann said.

"It was really disappointing.

"We've certainly had a discussion with him that it's not on from our point of view. It's not helpful for us and it's certainly not helpful for him, especially with everything that's happening with all the discussion.

"He's been in the limelight a bit. It just wasn't very clever."

Rockliff is yet to meet new coach Chris Fagan and new football manager David Noble.

"If you're going to be captain of the football club, you don't want to be involved in things like this," Swann said.

The Lions were awarded a women's team earlier this year for the national competition that will kick off in 2017.
