TOM ROCKLIFF is no certainty to remain as Brisbane Lions skipper, Lions football manager David Noble says.
On Wednesday Rockliff, 26, committed to seeing out his contract with the Lions until the end of 2017, and Noble said while the midfielder may want to remain as skipper, he would not have the final say.
"I think Tom would love to be captain. We'll run the normal process that each club does at the beginning of each year," Noble said on Thursday at Etihad Stadium.
"When a new coach comes in, it's his right to introduce some new leadership values. We'll probably look to get some external support."
Rockliff took over the captaincy in 2015, replacing Jed Adcock in the role.
Speculation had surrounded his future and whether he would seek a trade, with both club and player open to Rockliff leaving the club.
However, Noble doesn't expect a similar situation to play out at the end of next season.
"I don't think so. That'll pan out in the next 12 months. He's an All Australian, he's a best and fairest, he's the captain of our football club," Noble said.
New Lions coach Chris Fagan is spending his time meeting with players in in-depth conversations to learn more about the club, and Noble said Fagan was yet to make a decision about whether a new captain would be appointed.
Tom Rockliff is keen to stay on as the captain of the Lions, says David Noble.
