FREMANTLE has extended the contract of Griffin Logue, its first pick in the 2016 NAB AFL Draft, tying the 18-year-old to the club until the end of 2019.
The West Australian was pick No.8 in the draft after emerging as a top-10 prospect playing senior football with Swan Districts during 2016.
At 193cm, he is expected to take time as he develops into a player who can play at either end of the ground.
A former state basketballer and school rowing star, Logue will be part of the next wave of emerging young talent at the Dockers.
Logue told the club's website he was rapt to sign a one-year extension so soon after being drafted, given all draftees received a standard two-year agreement.
"I like to attack everything at full pace, so I don't think (the contract) makes too much of a difference in terms of my training, but I'm just definitely happy with the outcome for sure," Logue said.
Along with the rest of the first-year players at Fremantle, Logue is being gradually introduced to the demands of pre-season training.
Fremantle list manager Brad Lloyd said Logue was a competitive character and the club was looking forward to his development.
The Dockers selected Logue, Sean Darcy, Brennan Cox and Luke Ryan at this year's draft while placing Taylin Diman, Luke Strnadica, Brady Grey and Josh Deluca on the rookie list.
The club also recruited Joel Hamling from the Western Bulldogs, Shane Kersten from Geelong and Brad Hill from Hawthorn in a busy trade period.
