SCOTT Selwood might finally be about to rediscover his best football, with the injury-plagued Geelong midfielder burning up the track this pre-season, according to teammate Jackson Thurlow.
Selwood has had a wretched run with his troublesome ankle since he was first sent for surgery in 2014, undergoing multiple clean-ups before a second reconstruction last December.
The 26-year-old former Eagle made his long-awaited debut for the Cats late last season, playing five games without any setbacks, and the tough nut looms as an important cog in Geelong's midfield in 2017.
"There's been a lot of talk about the (Patrick) Dangerfield-Joel Selwood combination, but I think Scott Selwood's going to slip nicely in there and have a massive season," Thurlow told the club website's PodCats program.
"He's absolutely flying on the training track and in the running at the moment and is really strong.
"I think it's his first full pre-season in a while ... but look for him to really dominate next year."
Selwood finished last season strongly and played a key role limiting star onballer Sam Mitchell's influence in the Cats' nailbiting qualifying final triumph over Hawthorn.
But Geelong's season ended with a thud two weeks later against the Swans, and the humiliation of that defeat has been driving the squad over summer.
Thurlow, on the comeback trail from a knee reconstruction, said young forward Darcy Lang has been another of the standouts after he struggled for senior opportunities in the back of last season.
"He's worked really hard in the off-season," he said.
"He had a good trip to Europe, but he made sure he got all his running in and he came back in really good condition."
