COLLINGWOOD recruit Daniel Wells is racing the clock to be fit for round one as he attempts to shake off a lingering calf injury.
Wells failed to train with teammates out on the track at Olympic Park Oval and went for a scan.
The star midfielder is hopeful of featuring in one of the club's remaining two JLT Community Series fixtures and the club says he trained indoors on Monday.

"It's just a precautionary check-up on the body. Nothing in it really," Wells told reporters outside the scanning clinic.
The former Roo will not be fit enough to face Fremantle in Mandurah on Saturday, having been in rehab for the past two weeks.
Collingwood is due to play Richmond on March 11, which would be Wells' last chance to prove his fitness ahead of a round one match-up against the Western Bulldogs on March 24.
Asked when he would be fit to play, Wells said: "Not too sure yet, but hopefully soon."
The Magpies insist he remains on track for the opening round of the season.
Coach Nathan Buckley said last week the club would be happy if Wells played in 15 matches a season for the next three years.
The former Kangaroo joined the Magpies at the end of last season as an unrestricted free agent, signing a three-year deal reportedly worth $1.8 million.
