GREATER Western Sydney's Sam Reid and Daniel Lloyd are among five rookie upgrades made ahead of round one. 

As AFL.com.au reported last week, Collingwood confirmed key defender Henry Schade had been promoted to the senior list. 

Meanwhile, the fairytale run for mature-age Port Adelaide forward Brett Eddy will continue after he was upgraded, along with running defender Dan Houston. 

Reid, 27, played six games late last season and offers a mature body. His promotion follows former Docker Tendai Mzungu also being made available for the round one clash against Adelaide on Sunday.

Lloyd, 25, can play as an onballer or up forward.

The Giants will be without a few of their stars to begin the season, with Stephen Coniglio (ankle), Lachie Whitfield (suspension) and Brett Deledio (calf) among those missing.

Schade, 23, has put forth a strong case for a senior berth versus the Western Bulldogs on Friday night.

The former Sun marks well and played all three JLT Community Series games.

Eddy was drafted last year as a 27-year-old and has impressed with his smarts up forward. He slotted five goals against Hawthorn in the Power's final pre-season game, four of which came in 10 minutes. 

Houston looms as a possible replacement for hamstrung defender Jasper Pittard.

Power coach Ken Hinkley strongly hinted on Adelaide radio station 5AA on Tuesday night that Eddy would face Sydney at the SCG on Saturday.

"I've got to be a little bit careful from an AFL point of view. I can't really say too much but the obvious ones are pretty obvious. We'll have debutants (and) we'll have more than one," Hinkley said.

"I've already been on record as saying that it would be very, very hard to keep Brett Eddy out of the side based on what he's been able to do.

"Without saying too much, a 27-year-old debutant's a pretty special story."
