ST KILDA midfielder Jack Steven will remain in hospital for at least another night after suffering a punctured lung against West Coast on Saturday night.
The 27-year-old spent Saturday night in hospital following the Saints' 19-point loss to the Eagles at Domain Stadium.
Saints football manager Jamie Cox provided an update on Steven's condition on Sunday morning, saying the ball-winner had been ruled out of next weekend's clash with the Brisbane Lions.
"Due to the nature of the injury, Jack is unable to fly for the next day or two and will remain in Perth with club doctor Tim Barbour before flying back as soon as he is medically cleared," Cox told the club's website.
Steven received the injury late in the final quarter via an innocuous-looking bump along the boundary line.
He continued playing but was in obvious discomfort during the closing stages of the match, often hunching over to catch his breath.
Steven finished the game with 20 disposals, seven tackles and seven inside 50s.
The star midfielder has won three of the Saints' last four best and fairest awards, becoming the 10th Saint to take out the trophy on at least three occasions.
St Kilda remains hopeful midfielder David Armitage (groin) will be available for selection next week to fill the void left by Steven.
