Veteran onballer Scott Thompson picked up 23 disposals, 10 clearances and seven tackles as he continued his bid to break into Adelaide's senior team. 

The 34-year-old hasn't added to his 307 career games this year after shoulder and groin problems. 

Draftee Jordan Gallucci finished with 24 disposals and five clearances in his return from a shin injury. 

Smart forward Troy Menzel impressed in his 23-disposal effort after being dropped from the senior team, while Hugh Greenwood edged closer to making his debut after 27 disposals and 11 clearances after another standout display.

Port Adelaide beat the Crows at Maughan Thiem Hyundai Oval, 14.10 (94) to 8.11 (59).

Axed midfielder Dale Thomas silenced his doubters to some degree by collecting an equal team-high 30 disposals, six goal assists and a goal in the Blues' comfortable 62-point win.

The 29-year-old wasn't afraid to get his hands dirty, but the Blues may resist the urge for change at the selection table, especially after their shock 19-point win over Sydney.

Midfielder Blaine Boekhorst was a class above through the centre with 27 disposals and a goal, while forgotten forward Liam Jones (two goals) latched onto several hangers in between his various roles in the ruck, attack and defence. 

Fellow forward Harry McKay, speedster Dennis Armfield and ex-Crow Sam Kerridge also kicked two majors each, with the latter gathering 30 disposals.

Midfielder Jordan De Goey slotted two goals in the final week of his club-imposed senior suspension as the Magpies lost to Sandringham by 20 points at Trevor Barker Oval on Saturday afternoon.

De Goey, 21, was not allowed to play for the Magpies for three weeks after suffering a broken right hand in a St Kilda bar fight and lying to the club about it. 

Exciting draftee Kayle Kirby booted three goals while strong-bodied midfielder Rupert Wills was adjudged best on ground. 

Ben Crocker did plenty of work in the forward line and finished with two goals but the Zebras' accuracy helped them prevail, 17.11 (113) to 12.21 (93).

Returning left-footer David Myers had 26 disposals in a strong display as Essendon lost to Werribee by 23 points at Arden Street.

Myers, 27, missed all of last year with a doping ban and then ruptured a tendon in his right hand in February, which required surgery and kept him out for an extended period.

He also laid six tackles and took five marks. 

Rookie Sam Draper held his own against North Melbourne ruckman Braydon Preuss while former Swan Craig Bird collected 28 disposals and slotted a goal. 

Recruit James Stewart booted two goals and offered a marking target as inaccurate kicking cost the Bombers, who lost 14.13 (97) to 9.20 (74).

Defenders Cam Sutcliffe and Sam Collins will re-enter AFL calculations after producing notable individual performances despite the 33-point loss.

Sutcliffe amassed a game-high 36 disposals, nine tackles, five marks and five inside 50s, while Collins had 26 possessions, took 13 marks and laid four tackles.

Forward Matt Taberner kicked one of Peel's five goals for the match from his 20 touches, and big man Jonathon Griffin accumulated 34 hit-outs to go with his 16 disposals.

Defender Zac Dawson, meanwhile, had a forgettable afternoon, managing just six touches.

Ruckman Rhys Stanley took best-on-ground honours in the Cats' 36-point win, finishing with 27 hit-outs, 21 disposals, a game-high 12 marks, five tackles and three goals.

With draftee ruckman Ryan Abbott returning from a stress reaction in his back, Stanley wasn't stuck in one position and was able to contribute in the forward line against the undersized opposition.

Defender Tom Ruggles, who was the carry-over emergency last week and didn't feature at VFL level, was solid across half-back with 27 touches and five marks.

In his second game back from a pre-season toe injury, midfielder Scott Selwood collected 20 touches but his afternoon ended at around the 10-minute mark of the final term as he continues to gradually build match fitness.

Draftee Will Brodie picked up 35 disposals in the Suns' 47-point loss to Sydney University on Saturday morning at Blacktown.

Brodie was selected with pick No.9 in the 2016 NAB AFL Draft and is yet to make his senior debut.

Young midfielder Darcy Macpherson racked up 39 disposals, while Jack Scrimshaw (27) and Josh Schoenfeld (26) were also influential.

Cameron Loersch booted four goals as Sydney University won, 17.12 (114) to 10.7 (67).

Midfielder Jonathan O'Rourke continued to press his claims for a senior call-up after adding 28 disposals and five clearances in the Hawks' 28-point win.

It was O'Rourke's third successive game since overcoming a hamstring injury he suffered in mid-March.

Yet-to-debut onballer Dallas Willsmore had 25 disposals and six inside 50s, while draftee defender Harry Morrison led the stats sheet with 29 disposals and 14 marks. 

In attack, Ty Vickery kicked three goals and midfielder Ricky Henderson snared two majors from his 22 possessions.

Defender Josh Wagner made an earlier than expected return from a fractured thumb and was named Casey's best player in its 36-point loss.

The 22-year-old was expected to miss a month after having surgery to repair the thumb injury he suffered in a VFL practice match three weeks ago.

Wagner finished with 20 disposals, six marks and six tackles in his return.

Casey coach Justin Plapp told AFL.com.au on Sunday that Wagner emerged unscathed. 

"After a very interrupted 12 weeks with multiple injuries, Wagner looked very sharp, his ball use was very creative and (he provided a) strong aerial contest," Plapp said.

Midfielder Jack Trengove continued his good patch of form with a team-high 29 disposals, while Ben Kennedy (26 disposals, one goal) and Dean Kent (one goal) rounded out the Demons' leaders.

Small forward Lindsay Thomas kicked four goals while former captain Andrew Swallow collected 24 disposals, 10 tackles and eight clearances for Werribee in its 23-point win against Essendon at Arden Street on Saturday afternoon.

However, Kangaroos coach Brad Scott said they may have to bide their time in the VFL before earning a recall.

Braydon Preuss was influential in the ruck as he racked up 50 hit-outs to combine with nine disposals and five clearances while Sam Durdin stood up in defence with 17 disposals and 10 marks.

"The ball was going in there a bit and (Essendon) certainly had some dangerous forwards but Sam Durdin certainly did some good things when the ball was in his area," Tigers coach John Lamont told AFL.com.au. 

Another to impress Lamont was 20-year-old Declan Mountford, who picked up 21 disposals and five clearances.

"He was consistent all day and in the last quarter, when it got really tough and hard running was required, Dec was running just as hard in the last quarter as he was in the first," Lamont said.

Werribee ran away in the final term to hold on for victory, 14.13 (97) to 9.20 (74).

Returning forward Angus Monfries racked up 31 disposals and took 11 marks in an encouraging first-up display as the Magpies beat Adelaide by 35 points at Maughan Thiem Hyundai Oval on Saturday. 

Monfries, 30, missed all of 2016 with a doping ban from his time with Essendon. He required surgery on his left shoulder late last year and a subsequent hamstring injury set him back further. 

Brett Eddy and Nathan Krakouer each booted five goals to put forward a case for senior selection. 

Riley Bonner (30 disposals), Jimmy Toumpas (29) and Joe Atley (25) also racked up plenty of the ball as Port came away with a 14.10 (94) to 8.11 (59) win.

Forward Sam Lloyd was among the positives for the Tigers despite their 30-point loss, kicking four goals to go with his 26 possessions.

The 27-year-old, who has played just one senior game so far this season, was held over as an emergency against Melbourne in round five.

After his 28-possession performance last weekend, young midfielder Corey Ellis was again prominent playing on the wing and worked tirelessly for his 21 touches.

Fellow ball-winner Anthony Miles continued his strong form with a team-high 26 possessions and a goal, while forward Ben Lennon chimed in with two majors.

Key forward Paddy McCartin banged down the selection door with an eye-catching seven-goal haul in Sandringham's 20-point win, although he may find it difficult to earn a recall following St Kilda's convincing win over Hawthorn. 

The 21-year-old even had the chance to kick his eighth goal in the final quarter, but was forced off the ground under the blood rule. 

McCartin, who was omitted after his goalless, five-disposal game against the Brisbane Lions in round three, took his tally to 10 goals over the past fortnight. 

Axed ball-winners Luke Dunstan, Nathan Wright and Jack Lonie each collected 25 touches, while midfielder Shane Savage gathered a team-high 29 possessions. 

In attack, Lonie kicked two goals, and Dunstan and Savage booted one goal apiece.

A shoulder injury to forward Shaun Edwards marred the Swans' 24-point win against Northern Territory on Friday night at TIO Stadium.

Edwards, 23, was forced off the ground just before half-time. 

Promising defender Aliir Aliir was named in the best after a solid performance down back while big man Darcy Cameron performed well in the ruck. 

Draftee Oliver Florent booted a goal and was named among the best players.

The Swans pulled away in the final quarter to win, 16.12 (108) to 13.6 (84).

Axed Eagle Will Schofield and fellow backman Eric Mackenzie held firm, with their defensive efforts helping East Perth secure a 33-point win. 

Schofield made each of his 23 possessions and five marks count, while Mackenzie was equally damaging with 14 touches and five marks.

At the other end of the ground, Tom Lamb snared four final-quarter goals, while rookie ruckman Fraser McInnes gathered 21 touches, 15 hit-outs and kicked a goal, and could come into consideration to partner Jonathan Giles should Nathan Vardy (elbow) be ruled out.

This weekend: Footscray v North Ballarat - Friday, April 28, 5pm, VU Whitten Oval

Mitch Wallis made a triumphant return from a badly broken leg, racking up 34 disposals in an excellent display against North Ballarat on Friday night at Whitten Oval.

Wallis, 24, broke his left tibia and fibula against St Kilda last July and missed out on the club's drought-breaking premiership.

He also finished with 11 tackles and three goals from 90 minutes of game time in Footscray's 124-point win.

Wallis told AFL.com.au after the game he would likely need to play another match in the VFL he was considered for senior selection.

"I'm assuming (the club) wants me to get through a full game in the VFL next week first," he said.

Smart forward Tory Dickson booted three goals in his first game for the year after an abdominal concern.

Dropped defender Shane Biggs racked up 35 disposals across half-back.
