MELBOURNE midfielder Jordan Lewis says he has nothing to prove to former club Hawthorn as he prepares to face the Hawks for the first time on Sunday.
Lewis, who joined the Demons in a bombshell trade at the end of last season, said he was excited about the prospect of facing the club with which he won four premierships.
The 31-year-old was guided out the door by Alastair Clarkson in a move the coach said was designed to give him the long-term security that wouldn't be available at the Hawks.
Despite his controversial exit, Lewis said he would not be motivated to perform in front of his former coach.
"I don't play in spite of anyone … I'm here to perform as a Melbourne player and I want to make my coaches and my teammates happy," Lewis said on Fox Footy.
"I don't have to prove to anyone at Hawthorn that I can play.
"I want to perform for 'Goody' and Melbourne."
Lewis played 264 games for the Hawks, including 23 finals and all four premierships the club has won under Clarkson, winning the club's best and fairest award in 2014.
He was drafted to the club in 2004 alongside Jarryd Roughead, now his close friend, and said the pair had spoken about their last match as opponents.
"It was Geelong Falcons versus Gippsland Power in Moe in 2004, so it's been a long time," the former Falcon said.
"I can't say how I will feel on the day because I've never been in that position.
"It's one of those things where you can't plan for it.
"Inside the four walls of Hawthorn and also Melbourne, the team and the game is bigger than me."
