ST KILDA veteran Leigh Montagna is unsure when a decision will be made on his future.
The 33-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and while he wants to play on, the club has not decided whether it will keep him.
"I'm not sure when the decision will come," Montagna said on Tuesday.
"As we understand, it's not my decision anyway.
"The club's going to have a fair influence on that and when that is, that will take care of itself. At the moment, we're just worried about playing good footy."
Transformed from a midfielder into a running backman in 2016, Montagna has played 13 straight games this campaign after missing the opening round with a right calf strain.
He is ranked 12th in the AFL for uncontested possessions per game and is averaging a tick over 25 disposals.
Montagna said he wasn't focusing on his future yet.
"It is still a bit too early. There's still a lot of the season to play out," Montagna said.
"There's still eight games, plus finals, to go. We're still (in) a precarious position on the ladder, so we just need to continue to worry about trying to win games, and that's where my focus is at."
Montagna has experienced a different sort of year in his 16th season.
Former Hawthorn champion Dermott Brereton questioned the Saint's toughness last month, while talk around his playing future has swirled.
The 284-game player said he was coping with the challenges well.
"I'm OK. I'm just continuing to play football. I've been around long enough to know you ride the bumps and you ride the waves when they come as well," Montagna said.
"It's been a little bit like that but it's been a bit (like) our season. We started well and then had a little rough patch in the middle and things are better now."
The Saints playing group was in St Kilda to present $10,000 for the Maddie Riewoldt Vision on behalf of the AFL Players' Association.
