The AFL wishes to advise the Match Review Panel has reviewed the matches played in round 19 of the 2017 Toyota AFL Premiership Season. The following charges were laid: 

Charges Laid:

Lance Franklin, Sydney Swans, has been charged with making unreasonable or unnecessary contact to the face of Luke Hodge, Hawthorn, during the first quarter of the Round 19 match between the Sydney Swans and Hawthorn, played at the MCG on Friday July 28, 2017. 

In summary, he can accept a $1500 sanction with an early plea.

Based on the available video evidence and a medical report from the Hawthorn Football Club, the incident was assessed as careless conduct with low impact to the head. The incident was a second classifiable offence and therefore classified as a $2500 sanction. The player has no applicable record with impacts the penalty. An early plea enables the player to accept a $1500 sanction.

Luke Hodge, Hawthorn, has been charged with striking Tom Papley, Sydney Swans, during the second quarter of the Round 19 match between Hawthorn and the Sydney Swans, played at the MCG on Friday July 28, 2017.

In summary, for a third classifiable offence in one season, he can accept a one-match sanction with an early plea.

Based on the available video evidence and a medical report from the Sydney Swans Football Club, the incident was assessed as careless conduct with low impact to the body. The incident was a third classifiable offence and therefore classified as both a one-match sanction and a $2500 sanction. An early plea enables the player to accept a one-match sanction, with no financial penalty.

Patrick Dangerfield, Geelong Cats, has been charged with engaging in rough conduct against Matthew Kreuzer, Carlton, during the third quarter of the Round 19 match between the Geelong Cats and Carlton, played at Etihad Stadium on Saturday July 29, 2017.

In summary, he can accept a one-match sanction with an early plea. 

Based on the available video evidence and a medical report from the Carlton Football Club, the incident was assessed as careless conduct with medium impact to the head. The incident was classified as a two-match sanction. The player has no applicable record. An early plea enables the player to accept a one-match sanction. 

Taylor Adams, Collingwood, has been charged with engaging in rough conduct against Rory Laird, Adelaide Crows, during the third quarter of the Round 19 match between Collingwood and the Adelaide Crows, played at the MCG on Sunday July 30, 2017. 

In summary, he can accept a $1000 sanction with an early plea.

Based on the available video evidence and a medical report from the Adelaide Crows Football Club, the incident was assessed as careless conduct with low impact to the head. The incident was classified as a $1500 sanction. The player has no applicable record. An early plea enables the player to accept a $1000 sanction.

Other incidents assessed:

Contact between the Sydney Swans’ Lance Franklin and Hawthorn’s Luke Hodge from the first quarter of Friday’s match was assessed. The panel said that as Hodge disposed of the ball, Franklin made contact high with the inside of his arm. A free kick was paid downfield at the time to Hawthorn. It was the view of the panel that Franklin’s action was not a striking motion. No further action was was required.
