GREATER Western Sydney has confirmed Brett Deledio will make his long-awaited senior debut against Melbourne this week.

Deledio's move to the Giants from Richmond at the end of last season looked like being a bust when he broke down with a calf injury in February, and suffered multiple setbacks since.

But the 30-year-old has finally been able to get a solid training block under his belt in recent weeks, and has made two successful appearances in the NEAFL to convince coach Leon Cameron that he's ready for a call-up.

In the mix: Who's putting their hand up for round 20?

The dual Tigers club champion will play his 244th AFL game when GWS takes on the Demons at UNSW Canberra Oval on Saturday, with Deledio's last senior match coming against Essendon in round 17 last season.

He spoke exclusively to AFL.com.au after his NEAFL return two weeks ago, and said that he was confident he could have an impact on the Giants' premiership tilt despite his wretched run.

"That’s the plan, I didn't come up here just to cross-train and be a 'rehabber'," he said.

"It's been a difficult journey at times so I've got to make sure I'm doing everything right."

Deledio played across half-back in his first reserves game, but moved into the midfield last week and gathered 25 possessions in around three quarters of footy.

His experience will be a massive boost for GWS, especially if he plays forward, with stars Jeremy Cameron (hamstring) and Toby Greene (suspended) already certain to miss the Demons clash, and veteran Steve Johnson (knee) yet to prove his fitness after missing last week's win over Fremantle.
