SYDNEY is closing on a top-four spot after a percentage-boosting win over Fremantle on Saturday.
The Swans belted the hapless Dockers by 104 points at the SCG, improving their percentage by over 6%, which took them past Greater Western Sydney and Richmond.
They led by 75 points at the main break and while the third term was more even, Sydney kicked 5.4 to 1.4 in the last quarter to take the margin past three figures.
Coach John Longmire said the Swans didn't specifically talk about piling goals on the visitors to help grow their percentage; it was purely the result of his players striving to maintain their impressive form.
"It comes off the back of playing the standards that you want to play with, and playing a really strong brand of football," he said after the match.
"When we were up like we were at half time it was important to continue that.
"We got back and helped (teammates), but also got across and helped, so when we were in a situation where we looked like we were in trouble or were outnumbered, we were able to help out a teammate and turn defence into attack."
Five talking points: Sydney v Fremantle
Even after such a fantastic result and with his side winning 12 of its past 14 matches, Longmire said they weren't about to sit back enjoy their work just yet, with a clash with the top of the table Crows next Friday night already on the agenda.
"We've got a big job next week and with the players rolling their sleeves up and working the way they did today, that's fantastic, but the facts are that we need to keep going," he said.
"That's our aim, to keep pushing forward and to keep playing really good, strong team football.
"We go to Adelaide and play on a ground that is a real challenge against a team that's the best in the competition at the moment, and we look forward to that.
"It won't be easy they're a great team and they deserve to be where they are at the moment."
Longmire said he expected captain Josh Kennedy to return from a hamstring injury for the trip to Adelaide, after he was close to playing against the Dockers, but midfielder Nic Newman could be in doubt after hyperextending his right knee against Fremantle, and playing little part in the second half.
