ADELAIDE defender Brodie Smith is expected to miss the rest of the Crows' finals campaign after suffering a suspected torn ACL.

Smith, 25, injured his right knee when attempting to put a tackle on Josh Kelly in the Giants' half-forward flank 11 minutes into the game.

"Seeing him now in the rooms, he's clearly pretty shattered and we're shattered for him because he's put a lot of energy and heart and soul into the season," Crows coach Don Pyke said.

"It looks like it's going to be over for him, which is really disappointing for everyone involved.

"To the players' credit, they kept on with the job at hand, but they were clearly feeling for Brodie and they showed it after the game."

Smith slid towards the fence on the artificial turf near the boundary and was helped from the field, unable to put weight on his right leg. 

He went straight down into the rooms for assessment, and was in great pain and distress as he left the ground. 

Smith was tested for an anterior cruciate ligament tear immediately after the incident, and was given crutches in the rooms. 

The defender kicked a booming 50m goal early in the game before he suffered the injury.

Adelaide ran out comfortable 36-point winners to book their spot in a preliminary final.

Smith took to Twitter after the match to thank everyone for all the support he has received and was hoping for the best.

Smith has played 143 games for the Crows since making his debut in 2011, and he was named in the Virgin Australia All Australian team in 2014.

Midfielder David Mackay moved to the backline once Smith left the ground and would be expected to remain there for the Crows' next final.
