MELBOURNE has secured one of its brightest young forward talents, with spring-heeled Mitch Hannan signing a two-year contract extension with the club.
The new deal will ensure the 23-year-old will remain with the Demons until the end of the 2020 season.
Hannan, pick No.46 in the 2016 NAB AFL Draft, was a revelation in his first season with Melbourne in 2017, booting 22 goals from 20 matches.
Demons football manager Josh Mahoney said the club was looking forward to seeing what Hannan could produce after a terrific debut season in the red and blue.
"Mitch was able to have immediate impact on our team last year, coming in as a mature-age player," Mahoney told the club's website.
"Mitch's combination of speed and endurance allows him the flexibility to play as a forward and through the midfield.
"We look forward to Mitch developing his game further and building on his first season."
Hannan showed his aerial ability on several occasions last year, with the forward often launching for screamers above the pack.
He also displayed a knack for bobbing up to kick goals at important times, most notably against Collingwood in round 12.
Hannan joined Melbourne from Footscray, where he played in the club's 2016 VFL Grand Final win over Casey Demons.
