ESSENDON midfielder David Myers has been ruled out of Friday night's round one game against Adelaide at Etihad Stadium with calf tightness.

Teammate Ben McNiece will also be unavailable for selection because of a hamstring injury, although emerging onballer Darcy Parish's scan of a mystery concern came back all clear and he will be fit to take his place in the side.

All three players went for scans on Monday and Myers and McNiece got some bad news once the results were known, Bombers physical performance manager Justin Crow said.

"Dave Myers had calf tightness. His scan showed no sign of any muscle tear, which was a good thing, however he won't be available for the game," Crow said.

"McNiece's scan showed some mild upper hamstring irritation around where it inserts into the bone at the top of the pelvis and he also will not be available this weekend."

Myers was one of Essendon's best players through the middle of the ground in the club's second JLT Community Series clash against Geelong in Colac, racking up 18 touches, six clearances, six tackles and five inside 50s.

McNiece, a lockdown defender, was considered a candidate to mind Adelaide's Eddie Betts on Friday night, but his absence now potentially opens the door for Mark Baguley to return to the senior side.

Baguley did not play against the Cats after featuring in the club's first JLT Series game against Richmond.

Crow said speedy forward Orazio Fantasia was progressing well in his recovery from minor knee surgery.

Fantasia won't be available for the game against the Crows.

"He has just started running at the start of this week, we’ll be building him up as he’s able," Crow said.

"The key thing with Orazio is that he's obviously a high-speed and high-volume player on match day and we need to make sure that we get enough work into him that he’s ready to play when he does return."

Key defender Mitch Brown has overcome a groin issue and will be available, possibly as the replacement for Patrick Ambrose, who fractured his scaphoid and will be sidelined for an extended period.

Meanwhile, Crow said he was happy with the progress of Jayden Laverde (hamstring) and Kobe Mutch (knee) after they joined in parts of Tuesday's main training session.

Speedy Bomber Travis Colyer, who underwent surgery on his foot in February, is due to start running as of next week.
