GREATER Western Sydney star Jeremy Cameron is set for a lengthy stint on the sidelines, with his high hit on Brisbane youngster Harris Andrews sent straight to the Tribunal. 

The striking charge was graded as intentional, with severe impact and high contact, giving Match Review Officer Michael Christian no choice but to refer the incident directly to the Tribunal, which will sit on Tuesday night. 

Carlton veteran Dale Thomas is also facing a week away from footy, served with a one-match ban for a late bump that left Collingwood midfielder Levi Greenwood concussed. 

However, in-form North Melbourne midfielder Shaun Higgins escaped with only one fine for a series of incidents during his clash with former team the Western Bulldogs.

Cameron's late hit on Andrews was the weekend's biggest talking point, with the Lions defender forced to spend Saturday night in hospital after leaving the field on a stretcher.

It was later revealed that Andrews suffered brain bleeding as a result of the incident.

The only contentious part of the decision was whether to grade the incident as intentional or careless, with Christian saying his ultimate verdict wasn't as simple as it seemed.

"No decisions are easy," Christian said.

"We watched the incident from all angles and came up with the view that it was to be graded intentional – on that basis that a raised forearm or elbow is usually conclusive that a strike is intentional."

Cameron caught Andrews flush with a forearm to the jaw and is now facing the prospect of a lengthy suspension for the second time in his career. The Giants star was also banned for four games back in 2016, having broken the jaw of Lions midfielder Rhys Mathieson. 

He faces a similar penalty this time around, with Christian's grading of intentional contact and severe impact likely to harm Cameron's chances of escaping with a reduced ban.

Thomas is also facing a suspension, rubbed out for one week for his bump on Greenwood.

The former Collingwood premiership player collected the Magpies midfielder high and late, with Greenwood not returning to the match after suffering a concussion.

Christian evaluated three incidents involving Higgins, having caught Bulldogs youngster Billy Gowers with an elbow before appearing to strike Josh Dunkley later in the match. He also appeared to make contact to the face of Marcus Bontempelli with his elbow.

However, only the incident involving Dunkley earned Higgins a $2000 fine.

Elsewhere, Hawthorn defender James Frawley ($1500), Carlton midfielder Ed Curnow ($1500), Collingwood defender Brayden Maynard ($2000) and Giants midfielder Lachie Whitfield ($2000) earned fines for striking. 

Four players were fined for careless umpire contact: North Melbourne's Ben Cunnington ($1000), Brisbane's Darcy Gardiner ($1000), and Suns David Swallow ($2500), Charlie Ballard ($1000).

Several players were charged with engaging in a melee, including:

  • Brayden Maynard ($1000)
