SYDNEY'S horror week on the injury front has continued with Sam Reid forced off after just five minutes in Saturday's NEAFL clash with Achilles tightness.

It was Reid's second game back from quad surgery after he went down against Greater Western Sydney in round three in his only senior appearance this year.

The athletic forward got through limited minutes last week and was expected to have more game time against the Giants in Wollongong, but had one kick before he came from the ground.

Swans officials told AFL.com.au that Reid was taken off purely as a precaution and he will be assessed in the coming days.

The club is understandably cautious when it comes to the 26-year-old.

He failed to play a senior game in 2016 because of multiple issues with his calves and required surgery mid-season on an Achilles problem.

It is not yet known if Saturday's scare is related to the same leg.

It comes after Jarrad McVeigh (broken collarbone), Kieren Jack (knee) and Dan Hannebery (calf) were all injured in Thursday's loss to Geelong, with only Jack a chance to back up against North Melbourne next week.

Young defender Lewis Melican was another mid-week casualty after he re-injured his hamstring at training.

Melican was injured in the same round three match as Reid against the Giants, and also made his return through the reserves last week.
