STAR Demons Michael Hibberd and Jake Melksham appear on track to make their return from injury in Sunday's crunch clash against West Coast at Optus Stadium.
The pair hit the track with teammates early on Tuesday morning at Gosch's Paddock, with both Hibberd (quad) and Melksham (hamstring) joining in the majority of the drills and moving well.
Co-captain Jack Viney continued his recovery away from the main group, but importantly ran in runners and did some light kicking with rehab coach Daniel Cross as he bids to return from a foot injury in time for finals if the Demons make September action.
Ruckman Max Gawn (corked calf), Clayton Oliver and Tom McDonald were among a group of players who were on light duties, but it is not uncommon for a light one-hour session less than 48 hours after a game.
Spearhead Jesse Hogan is expected to find out the results of scans on his injured foot sometime on Tuesday morning, but positively was not sporting a moon boot as he arrived at the club.
Hogan and Jayden Hunt (ankle) did not train with the team as they await the results on scans.
Gawn told RSN 927 he was in much better shape than he was at this time last week after being hampered in the Demons' nine-point loss against the Swans.
The star big man hardly trained following the round 20 clash with Gold Coast and admitted he was in serious doubt with a severely corked calf just days out from the match against the Swans.
"I was the sorest I've been post the Gold Coast game, and I potentially could have walked out on crutches but I didn't want a big media storm so I bravely limped out," Gawn said with typical cheek.
"I was limping around the first few days and they said to take training off, which I did and I was always confident I was going to play but there were some doubts during the week.
"There were doubts early on in the game (against Sydney) but it got better and I'm in a much better position today than what I was last week."
Gawn said he went into the club at 1am to complete an extra ice bath session with teammate Clayton Oliver and revealed young forward Sam Weideman was on standby to play if he was unable to get through training the day before the game.
Hibberd looks to be a very good chance of playing against the Eagles after missing the past four weeks with a quad strain.
The defender appears to be slightly ahead of Melksham in his recovery, with the 2017 All Australian running at close to top pace and kicking over distance on Tuesday.
Melksham has been sorely missed by the Demons, with the forward – who leads the competition in goal assists with 27, one ahead of Richmond's Shane Edwards – sidelined for the past two games against the Suns and the Swans.
Melksham jogged laps at the end of the session and will have to prove that he is right to go during Thursday's main training to book his trip on the plane to Perth.
The Demons will fly out for Western Australia on Saturday.
