DESPITE a scintillating five-goal outing against St Kilda on Saturday, Brisbane's Charlie Cameron says he still has a few players to pass before being considered the best small forward in the game.

The dynamic Lion set Marvel Stadium alight with three first-quarter goals against the Saints and then two more at the start of the third term as the Lions ran riot in a 56-point victory.

It sparked conversation on who was the best small forward in the AFL.

Brisbane coach Chris Fagan said Cameron was "close" to No.1 and definitely "in the best four or five".

Kane Cornes told AFL.com.au's 'The Round So Far' that Cameron "frightens" opponents inside forward 50 and that he sat alongside Fremantle's Michael Walters as the best in the game.

Speaking on Monday, Cameron said he was pleased with his 2019 form but still had a way to go.

"It's always good when people are saying that but there's other small forwards out there," he said.

"I'm competing with Michael Walters, (Jordan) de Goey, Eddie Betts, you always watch them to see how they're going and try and match it with them."

On goals alone, Walters has 28, de Goey and Betts 27 and Cameron 26.

Like most players though, the 24-year-old Lion prides himself on more than kicking goals.

"I try and impact the scoreboard but as long as I'm doing other stuff that helps the team, like my pressure. I know if I'm putting pressure on, everything else will come," he said.

"It's always exciting when you kick goals and I don't mind celebrating with my teammates and fans."

Cameron certainly has plenty of cheek, sharing a moment with his younger brother Jarrod, who kicked two goals on debut for West Coast last Thursday night.

"I sent him a video saying, "You only kicked two, chin up mate".

"It's good banter between me and him.

"Hopefully he can get a game next week with Willie Rioli coming back in. I thought he played well on the weekend."
