EVERGREEN Carlton defender Dale Thomas is closing in on a contract extension that will take his AFL career into a 15th season.

Thomas' management will meet with the Blues this week to ramp up talks on a new deal as the 32-year-old insists he has plenty to offer the club's next full-time coach.  

While a number of decisions on Carlton's list will come at season's end after the new coach is ratified, Thomas is hopeful a call on his future is imminent. 

"I certainly know my manager is going in tomorrow or the next day," Thomas told Channel Nine on Monday night.  

"I waited until I played a pretty good game (against Adelaide) before I start to wind these chats up.  

"Hopefully I can go around again, I'm really enjoying it (and) as we see when you get a bit older, the discussion is whether to go on or not.  

"I think it should be form-based and, without pumping myself up too much, I think my form's certainly there to carry on." 

Thomas has signed one-year deals in the past two seasons after what the club described as "selflessly" opting out of a substantial trigger clause for the 2018 season following an injury-interrupted 2017 season.

Fifth in last year's best and fairest, Thomas has missed just one match this year after being stood down for drinking alcohol two days before the round 10 loss to St Kilda.  

The former Pie has spoken of the new-found enthusiasm at the Blues under caretaker coach David Teague, which has translated to a strong past five weeks of personal form.

Thomas will play his 100th game for the Blues against Richmond next weekend.

Like Thomas, the Blues also have a call to make on Kade Simpson, who played his best match of the season in Saturday's win over Adelaide.

After overcoming a hamstring injury earlier this season, the 35-year-old has recaptured some of the form that saw him finish runner-up behind Patrick Cripps in last year's John Nicholls Medal.

Simpson is keen to explore the possibility of playing on in 2020 with a decision expected at season's end. 

Levi Casboult is expected to meet a trigger clause to go on next season, should he play the final month of this season. The club also faces a call on 30-year-old ruckman Matthew Lobbe.  

Fellow veterans Matthew Kreuzer and Ed Curnow has recently signed one-year extensions, while former captain Marc Murphy has a year to run on his existing contract.
