MELBOURNE has added some much-needed outside run by securing wingman Ed Langdon from Fremantle.
The Demons handed over picks No.22, 79 and a future second-round selection for the 23-year-old, while the Dockers gave up Langdon, pick No.26 and a future fourth-round selection.
Fresh off consecutive top-five Doig Medal finishes, Langdon departs the Dockers after playing 68 games and kicking 33 goals.
The Victorian, drafted with pick 54 in 2014, has long been the subject of speculation about a return home and leaves after averaging 25 disposals this season.
His departure, alongside Bradley Hill's expected trade to St Kilda, robs Freo of more midfield experience following Lachie Neale's move to Brisbane last year.
The Dockers now hold picks seven, 22, 79 and 83 in the upcoming NAB AFL Draft.

Melbourne, which adds Langdon's run to the acquisition of ex-Giants utility Adam Tomlinson, has selections 3, 26, 42, 61, 79.

"We have been impressed by Ed’s development particularly over the past two years, where he has really established himself in the competition," Demons football boss Josh Mahoney told melbournefc.com.au.
"Ed is a ready-made player who will be a long-term prospect for the Melbourne Football Club, so that’s really exciting for us.
"Our focus during this period has been to bring two targeted players, both with elite endurance, into the club. Ed’s running capacity is in the top echelon of the league and that is evident in games.
"We had nearly 15 players go through the wing position this year, so to be able to have both Adam and Ed join us and play predominantly on the wing will give us some good stability in the midfield."
Fremantle list manager Mark Micallef wished Langdon well at his new club.
"The Fremantle Football Club is pleased to advise the we have reached an agreement with the Melbourne Football Club for a trade for Ed Langdon," Micallef said.
"We would like to thank Ed for his outstanding service in his time at Fremantle since being selected at pick 54 in the 2014 AFL Draft.
