GEELONG has cut veteran swingman Lachie Henderson as one of three final list changes ahead of Thursday's deadline.

Just 40 days after earning a recall as a forward in the Cats' preliminary final loss to Richmond, Henderson was told he wouldn't be offered a new contract for 2020.  

Fringe ruckman Ryan Abbott and father-son product Oscar Brownless have also been delisted but have been promised a spot on the rookie list should they not be picked up by a rival prior to November's NAB AFL Draft.  

The Cats will give Ryan Abbott a rookie lifeline.

Henderson will now search for a fourth AFL club after a 12-year journey spanning Brisbane, Carlton and Geelong that netted 171 games. 

Struck down by knee and foot injuries in recent seasons, the 29-year-old managed just 13 matches across 2018 and 2019.

Abbott, 28, last year penned a two-year extension until the end of 2020 but will move to the rookie list.

Brownless, 19 finished 10th in the VFL best & fairest after playing 18 games at VFL level in his first season at the club.

After three seasons on the club’s rookie list, Zach Guthrie and Sam Simpson have been promoted to the senior list.

And Category B rookie Blake Schlensog has signed a one-year deal for 2020.  

The decisions on Henderson, Abbott and Brownless follow the culling of Scott Selwood, Jordan Cunico, Wylie Buzza and rookie Jamaine Jones.
